About

As a child Heidi Cruz found books about horses comforting after her parents could not support her passion. By the time she was in second grade, she was writing stories about horses usually inserting herself as a “Mary Sue”. Throughout her teen years, her reading interests widely expanded into the fantasy and historical fiction genres. She became particularly passionate about Tudor England and the culture of Japan and these interests influenced her to write high fantasy novels.

Heidi holds an MFA in fiction writing from Southern New Hampshire University, where she also earned her BA in Creative Writing. Her work as an undergrad was published in the student literary journal The Manatee. During her time as a graduate student, she became passionate about Japanese literature and Asiatic horse culture.

Heidi lived in Japan for nine months teaching English. She also worked at  Bart Corp.  for author, Yoshi Kasahara, creating content for his English learning books and products. While she was there she learned as much as she could about horse in Japan, despite her lack of Japanese.

Currently, Heidi resides in her hometown of Milford, NH and pursuing her future writing career. Her latest projects include two novels centered around the myth, allure and power of horses.
